Invisalign and Clear Correct are two types of orthodontic treatments that may be used in place of traditional metal braces. Both use a series of clear plastic aligners custom-made to fit each patient's mouth. Over time, these aligners help shift the teeth into their correct positions.
Invisalign and Clear Correct are designed to treat the same types of issues as traditional braces, but they do offer several advantages:
made of clear plastic, they're virtually invisible while being worn
they don't have any sharp wires or metal parts that can irritate or cut into lips
they can be removed when you eat, brush or floss your teeth, or for dental visits
they can be removed when needed for social occasions
they're customized for your mouth and your specific issues, so they often work more quickly than traditional braces
Orthodontic devices can address a wide array of alignment issues, including:
overcrowding that causes teeth to come in at awkward angles or results in impaction (teeth that don't have room to fully emerge from the gum)
overbites which occur when the upper teeth “stick out” too far
underbites which occur when the upper teeth fall behind the lower teeth when biting down
crossbites which occur when only some of the upper teeth fall behind the lower teeth when biting
Having your teeth properly aligned also makes it easier to care for your teeth by eliminating odd angles and hard-to-reach crevices, which means you're less likely to have tooth decay and tooth loss. Plus, properly aligned teeth reduce the chances you'll have tempomandibular joint disorder (TMD), a condition that results in jaw pain, chronic headaches and uneven tooth wear.
